Species- Agave sisalana

Climate- requires tropical and sub tropical regions and can tolerate prolonged droughts and high temperatures

Cultivation- the underground stems of mature plants are usually kept in nurseries for the first 12 to 18 months. At the beginning of the rainy season the plants are transferred to the field 1 to 2 m apart. Sisal matures about three to five years after planting.

Processing- The sisal fibers are carefully selected. They have to be observed for the type, length and color. Then the selected fibers are brushed and pressed into bales. Then they are ready to be exported.

 

Maintenance of Sisal carpet-

Natural fibers are static-free and do not attract dust. But, you should vacuum your carpet daily otherwise dirt particles may lodge between the fibers and cause it to wear.

Soaking must be strictly avoided, as the fiber may retain a watermark after cleaning. When a spill occurs, it must be removed immediately by blotting with a clean cloth or absorbent paper.

Solid substances can be removed by scraping with a spoon. Be sure to work from the outside of the spot to the center.

Carpet-cleaning product is available for your sisal rug. Never pour any cleaning agent directly on the sisal. Be sure to test before applying.
